HOW CAN I APPLY?

"St. Stephen’s provides a classical education which inspires both head and heart of each child. At St. Stephen’s we also found a community of joy, authenticity and service where a school day is more than a schedule of classes, but a canvas upon which the rich color of each individual child is not only valued but intentional."

FIRST LEGO League

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a robotics program for 9 to 14 year olds, which is designed to get children excited about science and technology, as well as teach them valuable employment and life skills. Teams, composed of up to ten children with at least one adult coach, can also be associated with a pre-existing club or organization, home schooled, or just be a group of friends who wish to do something awesome. At St. Stephen's,  FLL is part of the 4-H program and has been meeting since August building towards a competition on 12/10/2011. Our FLL team ranked 12th out of 22 teams in this year's competition.

Every September, FLL releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Each Challenge has three parts: the Robot Game, the Project, and the FLL Core Values. Teams of up to ten children, with one adult coach, participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all guided by the FLL Core Values. Teams may then choose to attend an official tournament. After the tournament, SSA FLL will continue 4-H Robotics through the rest of 2012 school year in preparation for next season. Applications for next year's team will be collected in the spring.
